Why are my gutters overflowing when it rains?
Nine times out of ten it's debris. Leaves, twigs, roof grit, seed pods. Around Austin the big contributors are live oak leaves and catkins in spring and Ashe juniper through the winter. It piles up and blocks the water from reaching the downspouts. The water has to go somewhere, so it spills over the edge.
It doesn't look like much at first. But every rain, that overflow soaks your siding, fascia boards, landscaping, and the ground right next to the house. Clearing the gutter lets the water go where it's supposed to.
