Why do my windows get dirty so fast here?
The Austin area runs an almost year-round debris calendar. Juniper pollen coats glass and screens through the winter, live oak drops catkins and a film of pollen every spring, and the long dry summers keep limestone dust and road grit moving on the wind. Every one of those settles on your glass first, because it's the smoothest surface on the house.
A light rain doesn't rinse it off, either. It just wets the film, mixes it with whatever the storm blew in, and dries it back onto the glass in streaks. That's why windows here can look worse after a shower than before it.
